Rita and I were recently hosted by Nigel Thiele (Warren Randall’s right hand man) at Seppeltsfield. It was heartwarming to see the huge effort and investment being put into one of the most historic wine properties in Australia. There they hold the world’s only continuous century plus line up of fortified wine from every single year. In the photo Nigel is drawing a small glass of the 1955 (my birth year) for me. It was stunning but not as concentrated as the 1919 I then went onto taste!
Nigel’s tasting note for the 1955 Seppeltsfield Para is as follows:
Colour
Viscous Mahogany with golden hues.
Aroma
Toasted almond and burnt toffee with lifted cinnamon spice.
Palate
Savoury spice translates well, underpinned by classic rancio and zesty freshness for impressive length. 21.5% gives it harmony and balance.
